MailerLite currently lists a Free plan for up to 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. Kit currently advertises a Free plan up to 10,000 subscribers. The different limits reflect different product strategies, not an automatic winner.
Use a free tier to determine whether you will actually collect subscribers, publish consistently, and use the workflows before upgrading.

One person has to operate everything.
A feature that requires hours of configuration, monitoring, and maintenance is not free. Simplicity can be a competitive advantage for a one-person business.
The best tool is the one that covers the required work without becoming another project to manage.
